Princess Kate likes a bit of ‘spice’ as she reveals Prince William’s "Soft Spot" During Radiant Holi Visit

While the royal headlines have been dominated by the strategic "distancing" between the Wales and York households, the Princess of Wales took a break from palace politics to immerse herself in the vibrant colors of Holi in Leicester.

On Thursday, March 5, 2026, Kate visited the city’s famous "Golden Mile" to celebrate the Hindu festival of spring and love. Between barefoot dancing at the Shreeji Dham Haveli temple and admiring intricate saris, the Princess made a series of charming revelations about life behind the palace gates—specifically regarding her husband’s palate.

"I’m OK with Spice!"

The highlight of the trip was a stop at Bobby’s, a legendary family-run Indian restaurant that has been a staple of Leicester for over 50 years. While sampling a selection of traditional snacks, the Princess found herself in a lighthearted debate over the heat levels of the local cuisine.

When offered a chutney made with fresh green chillies and coriander, the owners, Dharmesh and Enna Lakhani, gave the Princess a gentle warning about its potency. Kate, however, didn't flinch.

"I'm OK with spice!" she laughed, before taking a bite and adding, "I love coriander and chilli. It's really mmmm!"

The admission settled a long-standing British debate about her food preferences, confirming that she is the "spice-seeker" of the family—a sharp contrast to Prince William, who she has previously joked finds fiery flavors a bit too much to handle.

Prince William’s "Chocolate" Soft Spot

While Kate was busy tackling the chillies, she didn't leave her husband entirely out of the conversation.   While browsing a case of colorful mithai (Indian sweets) to take home to Windsor, she revealed that the future King has a major weakness for a certain classic ingredient.

  • The Sweet Selection: When choosing treats for Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7), Kate gravitated toward the richer options.

  • The Revelation: She told the owners that while William might skip the extra spicy curry, he has a massive "soft spot" for chocolate.

  • The Takeaway: The Princess reportedly hand-picked a chocolate-based sweet specifically for William, ensuring he wouldn't feel left out of the Leicester festivities.

A "Garnish for the Soul"

The visit wasn't just about food; it was a deeply symbolic solo engagement designed to highlight the "heritage and heart" of the British-Indian community.

The "Kate Effect" in 2026

Dressed in a sustainable cream wool coat by Chris Kerr and a Polo Ralph Lauren dress, Kate’s "all-white" ensemble was a nod to the traditional Holi attire where status fades and everyone becomes equal under the splash of color.

As the monarchy continues its 2026 "slim-down," Kate’s ability to pivot from the somber memorial service she attended with Princess Anne just 24 hours prior to the joyful, spice-filled streets of Leicester proves why she remains the Firm’s most effective bridge to the public.
