The "Ascot Ban" and the Epstein Audit: Why the Royal Family is Distancing from Beatrice and Eugenie

Royal Family 'suspect something' as they ‘distance themselves’ from Beatrice and Eugenie

As of mid-March 2026, the "mood music" surrounding Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie has undergone a chilling transformation. Royal author and biographer Andrew Lownie has recently weighed in on the reported decision to "bar" the sisters from the traditional carriage procession at Royal Ascot 2026, suggesting the move is a clear indication that the Palace "either knows something or suspects something" regarding new developments in the Epstein scandal.

According to Lownie and other royal insiders, the decision to publicly distance the sisters from the "Core Four" is no longer just about their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, but about their own refusal to comply with institutional demands.

The "Audit" Refusal: A Grave Mistake?

One of the most explosive claims made by Lownie is that the sisters were recently asked by the Palace to provide a voluntary audit of their private business finances to ensure there were no lingering ties to their father’s former associate, Jeffrey Epstein.

  • The Request: The "firm" reportedly wanted to clear the air following 2026 DOJ leaks that alleged money was "fenced" through various York-family accounts and that the sisters received expensive jewelry as "gifts" in their late teens.

  • The Refusal: Both Beatrice and Eugenie reportedly refused the audit, citing their status as private citizens with independent careers in tech and art.

  • The Fallout: Lownie suggests this refusal has "blown the bridge" with Prince William, who is reportedly "furious" and determined to protect the monarchy from any further financial "landmines."

Why the "Ascot Ban" Matters

While the Palace has floated the narrative that the sisters "never planned to go," Lownie calls this "interesting" and "oddly public."   He argues that the ban on the Royal Ascot carriage procession is the ultimate signal of "toxic" status.

"The institution wants to protect itself and is therefore distancing itself from the daughters," Lownie noted. " They could have just quietly said to them, 'Please don't turn up.' To have it leak suggests a deliberate distancing."

A "Diverse" List of Snubs

The Royal Ascot ban is just the latest in a series of institutional "ice-outs" that have occurred in the first quarter of 2026:

The "Suspect Something" Theory

Lownie’s most haunting suggestion is that the Palace is "taking action before we then find something out."   With three million pages of DOJ files still being analyzed by the press, there is a "rumbling idea" that more information regarding the sisters' presence at Epstein's various properties as young adults (aged 19 and 21) is about to surface.

The biographer predicts a "major shake-up" once the current reign ends, suggesting that Prince William intends to eventually remove their HRH titles and officially change the Line of Succession to exclude the York branch entirely.

"Blindsided" and in Tears

Friends of the sisters have told PEOPLE and The Mirror that Beatrice has been "completely blindsided" and is "bursting into tears regularly," while Eugenie remains in a state of "defensive denial."  Caught between loyalty to their parents and their own survival, the sisters are reportedly "devastated and betrayed" by the actions of their mother, Sarah Ferguson, whose leaked emails have directly implicated the family's financial history.
