Prince William reveals Prince George doesn't always stay at home

During his surprise live appearance on the Heart Breakfast radio show with hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, Prince William shared a rare update about Prince George's routine, letting slip that his eldest son doesn't always sleep at home.

The Prince of Wales revealed that George has begun utilizing the flexible boarding option at Lambrook School in Berkshire, where he and his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are enrolled.

The On-Air Shout-out

While broadcasting live from a café in the remote Isles of Scilly, William was asked if he wanted to send a morning message to his children as they prepared for the school run. In his response, he subtly revealed George's new arrangement:

“Charlotte and Louis—because George was boarding last night—Charlotte and Louis, if you're listening, make sure you're on time, please. Make sure you're not fighting over who's listening to what this morning.”

— Prince William

Lambrook School caters to pupils aged 3 to 13 and allows students in George’s age bracket (7 to 13) to board flexibly—ranging from a few nights a week to just the occasional overnight stay to be with friends or accommodate early morning activities.

Prepping for the Next Chapter

Royal analysts note that introducing George to occasional boarding is a deliberate "jumpstart" to prepare him for secondary school.

George turns 13 in July 2026, marking his final semester at prep school. When he moves to his next destination in September, he is highly expected to transition to full-time boarding. While his father’s alma mater, Eton College, has long been considered the frontrunner, newer reports suggest the co-educational Oundle School in Northamptonshire has also entered the mix as a strong contender.

"Chaotic" Royal Mornings

William also brought plenty of his trademark dad-humor to the interview, painting a highly relatable picture of the morning rush at Adelaide Cottage when all the children are home:

  • The Schedule Juggle: He admitted the house can get chaotic depending on the day's curriculum. "It depends if there is a guitar lesson or a music lesson, you have to get the guitar in the car... are we boarding, are we not? Are we seeing friends or are we not? All of that going on early in the morning."

  • The "Jam Sandwich" Tax: He also joked that Prince Louis has a habit of complicating the commute by leaving sticky "jam fingerprints throughout the car."

Despite the morning chaos, William took a heartfelt moment to praise his family, reiterating how proud he was of Princess Catherine following her successful solo working trip to Italy, warmly calling her an "amazing mum and an amazing wife."
